Do the Little Things, Surrender to the Simple

Written and Submitted by: Kelly Reins

Why is it that the things we need to do are the things that we do not want to do? Why does God require us to be faithful in the little things? Does it have something to do with His burden being light? He catches us off-guard and gives us the opportunity to be quiet and pay attention when He says, "Do this little thing. That will fix your problem." We slow our paces and say "This? That is it? That is all?"

He requires the little things for success.

Like when the leprous ruler Naaman was wroth after Elisha asked him to bathe in the murky waters of the Jordan that would cleanse him of his disease. Great things he would have done; but this little thing? Perhaps humility is tied into this somehow? He who will abase himself will abound.

How can a cure be so simple? How is it that simply taking the time to sit quietly by someone's side makes him feel like a king and draws you closer to him? (Dad) Why is it that a smile in the morning can determine the other 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds of the day? Sitting up straight and looking someone in the eyes when they are talking about whatever is on their minds...gives them a sense of self-worth and opens doors for you to minister to them. How about cleaning your room and making your bed?

Being faithful in the little things requires purity in the inward parts so we can hear God. What is it that He wants us to do? It's only when the tangle of thoughts that cloud our minds cease and we surrender, that we hear what He has been saying to us. He speaks again and now that we are listening what does he say? "Do the little things." He is consistent and thank goodness persistent.

The meek do inherit the earth. They are humble, content to surrender to the simple, and do the little things. Faith gets the most, love works the most, and humility keeps the most.
