Grandma's Baked Beans
Makes: n/a- 2 c. navy beans, soaked overnight and cooked until soft
- 1/2 c. brown sugar
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1/4 t. ginger
- 1/3 c. molasses
- 1/2 lb. ham or bacon chunks
- water to cover
Mix all ingredients together in a deep casserole dish and bake uncovered at 300ºF for 3 hours, stirring every hour until thick and soft. Add more water only to keep beans from burning to the bottom of the pan.
Note: You can also put beans in a crock-pot and cook on high for 8 to 10 hours, stirring every 2 hours. In this case, only add 1-1/2 c. water to bean mixture.
"This recipe is my grandmother's recipe. She and my grandfather raised seven children on a dairy farm in northern Vermont. This is very tasty and economical."
"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies." Proverbs 31:10
