Lovely Patterns
Submitted by: Mrs. Pauline DoyleI have been very pleased to find some wonderful dress patterns on the Simplicity website. I have so far bought and made two of them and am very pleased with the results. I have also found some lovely dresses for little girls which go right up to age 14!
The first is Simplicity #9829, a "design your own pattern." I bought it in a size 6-12, but I'm sure it comes in bigger sizes too. The dress has 3 bodice options. I have made one with a contrasting tie collar. It also has a mandarin type collar, or you could just make it plain without a collar. It has darts front and back and a back zip with a pleated skirt and ties at the back. It is a fairly easy pattern.
The second is Simplicity #5558. It is a loose, pull-over dress with a tie at the back. It is very easy. I bought size 8 - 14. The bodice is above the waist, so it would be a good early maternity dress. You can choose from a plain skirt with or without outside pockets. There is also an option of a frill at the bottom (that's the one I made) or 3 "tiers". A lovely, easy and very comfortable dress!
The first girls pattern I hope to be able to buy next month is Simplicity #9412. It buttons down the front and has a gathered skirt with or without pockets. It has the option of a collar and short, long, or no sleeves (jumper). It ties at the back, and as I said, comes in size 3-14 years.
The second lovely girls pattern I found is Simplicity 7039 - 6 made easy. This one has a zip at the back and pleats with various neck and sleeve options--a very pretty dress!
There is also a lovely nightgown pattern #9942. Another dress for girls #9497 which has an overskirt and puffed sleeves.
For a ladies' nightgown there is pattern #9012 in short and long sleeves--just lovely.
I hope this has been a help. I did a lot of searching through the catalogues online to find suitable dresses for my daughter and myself, and was pleased that Simplicity still have some really pretty, girly dresses!
