Chain-Stitch Snood
Submitted by: Keslie CouchA neat and attractive snood crocheted in chain loops. It is drawn up with elastic thread along the back only.
Materials: 2 oz. yarn (with approx 75 yds per oz and equivalent in thickness to 2 strands of 3 ply wool twisted together), No. 10 crochet hook and a small quantity of elastic thread.
Tension: About 1 loop to 1.15 ins in width and 2 rows to 1.25ins in depth.
Size: Will fit an average size adult.
Chain 54, for a foundation to measure about 9-1/2 inches.
1st Row: 1 tr in 3rd ch from hook, then do 1 tr in each remaining ch to end. Turn.
2nd Row: Ch 2, 1 tr in 2nd tr of previous row, then 1 tr in each remaining tr, ending with 1 tr in the top of ch 2 at end; turn.
3rd Row: Ch 20, miss 1st 4 tr of preceding row, 1 dc in next tr, * ch 10, miss next 3 tr, then do 1 dc in next tr; repeat from * all along, putting the last dc in the top of the 2 ch at end; turn.
4th Row: Ch 20, 1 dc in 1st loop of preceding row * ch 10, 1 dc in next loop rep from * to end; turn.
Rep 4th Row 20 times more. Do not turn at end of last row. Now work around edge: ch 3, pick up next 20 ch, loop along edge and twist it to form a small loop and do 1 dc, into this small loop * ch 3, twist next ch 20, loop and do 1 dc into the small loop so formed; rep from * to end the 1st side, make ch 3, then do 1 dc in each of the foundation ch of work; now ** ch 3, twist next loop along 2nd side edge and do 1 dc, into the small loop so formed; rep from ** all along this side, then work in same way along the ch 10 loops of remaining edge. Fasten off.
Run a row of elastic through back edge of snood to draw it up.
