Batting Alternative for Quilts

This creative idea is from my grandmother, who makes quilts and afghans for charitable organizations and nursing homes. She is on a fixed income, and her creativity just astounded me.

Instead of using batting for the inside of a quilt, she uses mattress pads. She goes to the Salvation Army, etc., where such can be purchased for almost nothing, and then cuts them up to use in her quilts. I thought it was very ingenious.
