$15 Graduation Gift or Child's Gift
Submitted by: Sue BarkowskyMaterials Needed:
- 1 medium size bulletin board ($6.00 at Wal-Mart)
- 1/2 yard of material (I found an adorable striped material for $1.00 a yard)
- 1 box of clear tacks (around $1.50)
- 1 bottle of Tacky Glue ($2.00)
- 1 package of double-fold bias quilt binding 7/8" wide ($2.00)
- several buttons that match your material ($2.00)
- 1 roll of ribbon or lace ($1.00 or under)
- Glue Gun
Directions:
Cut your material to fit the inside of your bulletin board. Tacky Glue the material to the bulletin board. Measure out your quilt binding and cut 4 strips, one for each side of your board. You will cut your corners into angles that fit together and Tacky Glue them onto the frame of your bulletin board. Since it is double fold quilt binding, I glue the fold together once I have them glued to the frame. That way it does not matter which way the binding is facing. I Tacky Glue some fashion buttons on the corners, but it is a matter of taste and creativity for this part. Using ribbon or lace, cut out strips to place onto your board. (Be sure to measure these pieces to fit properly.) Place three strips from top to bottom and then two from left to right. It will look like tic-tac-toe with an extra line. First, Tacky Glue the two horizontal strips to the material. Then your three vertical strips will be Tacky Glued at the top and bottom and at the crisscross points. This way you will make it handy to slide notes or envelopes into the opened portions of your strips. Then hot glue your matching buttons onto the tacks. This makes a great gift.
It is so adorable. Growing up, I always dreamed of having a bulletin board, but, we never could afford one. So, while I thinking one day, this gift idea came to me and I decided to make them as graduation gifts. As my children are growing older, they like to have their special things hung up on their own little bulletin board.
