Week One

A Day

~ William L. Stidger

What does it take to make a day?
A lot of love along the way.
It takes a morning and a noon,
A father's voice, a mother's croon;
It takes some task to challenge all
The powers that a man may call
His own: the powers of mind and limb;
A whispered word of love; a hymn
Of hope--a comrade's cheer--
A baby's laughter and a tear;
It takes a dream, a hope, a cry
Of need of brotherhood and love;
A purpose sent from God above;
It takes a sunset in the sky,
The stars of night, the winds that sigh;
It takes a breath of scented air,
A mother's kiss, a baby's prayer.
That is what it takes to make a day;
A lot of love along the way.

Week Two

One Step More

~ James Dillet Freeman

A hill is not too hard to climb,
Taken one step at a time.
One step is not too much to take,
One trip is not too much to make.
One step, one try, one song, one smile
Will shortly stretch into a mile.
And everything worthwhile was done
By small steps taken one by one.
To reach each goal you started for,
Take one step more...take one step more.

Week Four

"The best way to persuade others is with your ears--by listening to them."
~ Dean Rusk

Week Five

The heart is a garden where thought flowers grow,
The thoughts that we think are the seeds that we sow;
Each kind loving thought bears a kind loving deed
While a thought that is selfish is just like a weed.

We must watch what we think the live long day
And pull out the weed thoughts and through them away;
And plant loving seed thoughts so thick in a row
There will be no room for weed thoughts to grow.
