February 2006

Week One

"The highest of character, in my estimation, is his, who is as ready to pardon the moral errors of mankind, as if he were every day guilty of some himself; and at the same time as cautious of committing a fault as if he never forgave one."
~ Pliny The Younger

Week Two

"The smallest good deed is better than the grandest good intention."
~ Dughet

Week Three

"It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt."
~ Mark Twain

Week Four

"Each day is like a furrow lying before us; our thoughts, desires and actions are the seed that each minute we drop into it without seeming to perceive it. The furrow finished, we commence upon another, then another and again another. Each day presents a fresh one, and so on to the end of life...sowing, ever sowing. And all we have sown springs up, grows and bears fruit, almost unbeknown to us. Is there not a thought in this that should make us reflect?"
~ Charlotte M. Yonge

Week Five

God...My Friend

~ J.J. Metcalfe

If I had not a single friend
To love and comfort me,
I know I would still have God
To keep me company.
I know that I could talk with Him
However far apart,
And I would hear His gentle voice,
If only in my heart.
And He would take my hand in His
And guide me on my way,
Along the path of sunshine where
The clouds are never gray,
For God is my eternal friend
Who never lets me down
Or loses interest when I wear
A worry or a frown.
And though the flame that lights my soul
May grow a little dim,
He does not question me as long
As I have faith in Him.
