Week One

"The function of a filing cabinet is to lose papers alphabetically."
~ Author Unknown

Week Two

Best Gifts

~ Elaine V. Emans

Our mother thought she hadn't much
To give: a jar of marmalade,
A box of cookies, a wooly dog
Or bit of lace she had crocheted.
But oh, she gave her friendly smile,
Her hand to strangers come, and she,
Who thought she hadn't much for giving,
Gave us generosity.

Week Three

Giving and Forgiving

~ Thomas Springer

What makes life worth living
Is our giving and forgiving
Giving tiny bits of kindness
That will leave a joy behind us,
And forgiving bitter trifles
That the right word often stifles,
For the little things are bigger
Than we often stop to figure.
What makes life worth the living
Is our giving and forgiving.

Week Four

"I was on the receiving end of 'super straight' parents. Only two words come to mind as I recall those days when I thought I was being persecuted: Thank You.

"Thank you for the courage, the strength, the determination and the love you demonstrated by insisting that I live up to your standards. Even though I fought you every inch of the way, you never gave an inch. I hated you then but I realize now how wise you were.

"At 23, when someone says, 'You are so much like your mother,' I feel very proud of myself. As one who was constantly testing the boundaries, looking for soft spots and regulations, I am ever so grateful you kept a tight rein on me. I see now that I needed your strength to develop my own."

~ "Grandma Jeanne"
